Renting from Rent the Runway

Late last year, I attended a friend’s wedding with an all-black dress code. I don’t have any black dresses that could be worn to a wedding, so I went to a trusted source for a simple, yet elegant black dress: Rent the Runway.

I had rented from RTR before, and loved how easy the experience was. I felt so sophisticated and grown-up wearing such a gorgeous dress; I knew I had to rent my next special occasion dress from there.

The rental cost of the dress for that weekend totaled about $45. This is a significantly cheaper (and sustainable!) option than shopping at a designer store or dress shop.

The Process

How to Rent

RTR has subscriptions at varying price points that deliver clothes to you monthly to refresh wardrobes, try out new styles, and elevate any look.

For this particular occasion, I opted for a one-off rental. I scrolled through their selection of black dresses, selecting the date range I would need the dress for (including a day or two after the event to mail the dress back on time). Once I found the perfect dress for me, I selected my size and a backup size, and then checked out as I normally do when I shop online. The backup size ensures that I have a second option in case my typical size does not fit as expected.

I love that RTR has reviews from people who have previously rented and worn the outfits. Their reviews appear honest and transparent, noting aspects such as quality, fit, and durability of the clothing pieces. Most reviews also have photos of customers wearing the clothes, too, which gives a great idea of how the outfit will look on you.

How to Wear

Wear the dress, blouse, skirt, pants, etc., however you’d like!!!! I always feel so stylish, chic, and sophisticated when I wear a designer dress to any party.

Photoshoots are also a must.

How to Return

Returning the rented clothing is so easy. I’d argue that it’s even easier than choosing and receiving the clothes.

The clothes come in a reusable bag with a zipper and the return label inside, ready to be slipped into the clear pocket on the outside of the bag. The bag also has thick carrying straps, perfect for carrying around if you’re traveling from place to place.

The dresses came in plastic coverings and were attached to hangers. I’m not sure if these are required to be returned, but I always try to save them and return them just in case.

After slipping the return label into the outside pocket, I simply drop off the bag at the nearest UPS store. That’s it.

I’ve rented from RTR a handful of times now, and have never had an issue receiving or dropping off my rentals. I’ve even dropped off my rentals in another state with ease. The process is especially nice when I am traveling for a wedding because I can then return home with less stuff.

I’m looking forward to my next special occasion so I can rent another dress and look super fancy and cute!!!!

Wow, that was a piece of cake.

Have you shopped at Rent the Runway or similar rental sites before?

Until next time, friends!
